Maxalt is a cerebral vasoconstrictor used to relieve certain types of migraine headache attacks as they occur. It will not prevent or reduce the number of attacks you experience. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Maxalt works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, which has been shown to dip during migraine attacks, affecting the contraction in the blood vessels which is associated with migraine pain.
