Provera is a progestin hormone used to treat menstrual disorders caused by hormonal imbalance and also used as a contraception to prevent pregnancy. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Provera works by increasing the level of the hormone progestin in the body that the body fails to naturally produce. As a contraceptive, Depo-Provera works by preventing the ovaries from ovulating (releasing fertile eggs) thus preventing the instance of pregnancy.
