Atrovent is an anticholinergic agent when used as a nasal spray, treats a runny nose caused by allergies or a cold. When taken through an inhaler, it is used to prevent long-term symptoms of emphysema or chronic bronchitis. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
As a nasal spray, Atrovent works by preventing the glands in your nose from producing large amounts of fluid and mucus. As an inhaler, Atrovent works by opening the air passages, allowing more oxygen to reach the lungs.
