Generic Name: Ursodiol (ER-soe-dye-ole)
Urso is a gallstone dissolving agent used to treat certain types of gallstones. It may be prescribed as
as a treatment for patients who do not want or cannot have surgery to remove gallstones. It is also used to
prevent gallstones forming in overweight patients who are on rapid weight loss diets. It may also be used to treat other
conditions as determined by your doctor.
Urso works by decreasing the production of cholesterol and by dissolving cholesterol in bile so that it cannot form gallstones.
